Falcons Claim Six First-Place Finishes at Toledo Invitational

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University track and field team captured six first-place finishes on Friday night at the Toledo Invitational. BGSU claimed three firsts in the throws, one in the long jump, another on the pole vault and one in the steeplechase.

The BGSU throwers had one of their most impressive nights of the year, finishing first in the shot put, discus and hammer throw, with much of that help coming from junior Whitney Hartman. Hartman had a Regional qualifying mark of 182-07 in the hammer throw and stormed past the competition in the discus with a throw of 145-09.

TaKarra Dunning won the shot put with the Falcons second Regional mark of the night with a toss of 48-07.25. Kylie Kornak also contributed in the throws, finishing third in the javelin with a mark of 113-08.

The Falcons had two first place finishes in the jumps. Sabrina Forstein finished first in the pole vault with a mark of 11-11.75, while senior Amanda Sefcik was first in the long jump with a height of 18-07.75. Teammate Brittani McNeal was a close second with a mark of 18-07.

The final individual crown came from Lyndi Springer, who won the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:28.96.

Other top performances included a second and third place finish from Carly Bates (4:41.82) and Autumn Dettmann (4:43.87) in the 1,500 meters and a fourth place finish from Kara Butler in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:27.97.
 

 

Up next for the Orange and Brown will be a trip to Ann Arbor, Michigan on Saturday, May 10. Following that meet the Falcons will host the 2008 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships on May 15-17.
