Falcons Stay Idle in Sixth After Day Three

BUFFALO, New York - The Bowling Green State University Falcons remained in sixth place at the Mid-American Conference championships on Friday as Alisha Yee and Michael Carriaga won their second individual MAC medals of the meet and six Falcons recorded new personal bests. Alisha Yee complemented her runner-up finish in the 200 IM last night, with a third place finish in the 100 back this evening. She finished in a time of 55.94. This is Yee's second individual medal of her career. In the prelims, she broke the MAC, MAC meet, and University of Buffalo pool record with her time of 55.30. In addition, she set the BGSU record and earned a B cut time. The previous MAC record was held by Ohio's Emily Wylam, set it in 2006. Wylam, who swam in today's meet, finished second overall in the finals. The prior BGSU record was 56.20, set in 1993 by Nancy Simpson. Teammate Sami Jordan finished just out of medal contention in the 100 back as she scored fourth place while also setting a personal best with a 56.33 time. Captain Michael Carriaga also won her second individual MAC medal of the meet as she took second in the 100 fly in a personal best time of 56.16. Her other medal performance came last night with her third place finish in the 200 IM. Furthermore, freshmen Sarah Burston claimed ninth place in 56.75 and Liz Harper took 11th in 57.06. A trio of seniors also contributed to the Falcon scoring. Kim Albin scored as she swam to a new personal best in the 400 IM. She earned a sixth place finish with her time of 4:26.94, while demolishing her prior best by more then six seconds. Jen Wright recorded a seventh place finish in the 400 IM. She too set a personal best with a time of 1:51.58. Her previous best was 1:52.19. Rounding out the senior scoring was Christina Vaca with her 10th place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a person best time of 1:05.65.
The 400- medley relay team consisting of Yee, Carriaga, Vaca, and Wright scored in the last event of the night in 3:48.22 and a sixth place finish. The competition concludes tomorrow with preliminaries at 11:00 a.m. and finals at 7:00 p.m. |
