At the conclusion of the 2007-08 season Ian Cherteiny finished his first season as the diving coach for the Falcons swimming and diving program.

Cherteiny, a Belleville, Michigan native joins the Falcons after serving as the head of the diving program at Saline High School for the past three years. In addition, he has many years of his own diving experience.

In 2008 his lone diver, Jill Auer finished 14th in the 3-meter and 17th in the 1-meter at the MAC Championships.

Prior to working in Saline, Michigan, he coached at the Northwest Swim Club in Columbus, Ohio. There, he was the head diving coach for children, ages 6-18 while also teaching diving lessons to the same ages.

As a diver, Cherteiny competed for Eastern Michigan University from 2002-2004 and was a member of the MAC Championship team. Individually, he finished third on the 3-meter springboard in 2003. That same year, he qualified for the NCAA zone on both the 1 and 3 meter springboards.

Before diving for Eastern Michigan, Cherteiny spent a year at Bowling Green State University, as a member of the MAC diving team.

Cherteiny is the son of George and Cheryl Cherteiny. He has one brother, Jeremy, 29 and one sister, Janelle, 24.
