Falcons Sixth at MAC Championships After 36 Holes

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Bowling Green State University women's golf team shot a 36-hole score of 652 (329-323) on the opening day of the 2008 Mid-American Conference Championships, placing them in sixth-place. Kent State leads the tournament with a score of 594.

BGSU (652), while in sixth, trail fifth-place Ball State (647) and fourth-place Western Michigan (646) by just five and six shot respectively. The Falcons have never finished higher then fifth at the MAC Championships.

"I am very proud of our team's perseverance through extremely windy conditions," said BGSU head coach Stephanie Young. "We stuck to our game plan and had a no quit attitude. The whole team just kept fighting and we are looking forward to competing tomorrow."

The Falcons were led by All-MAC Candidate Jessica McCann, who carded a 36-hole score of 161 (81-80). The senior had two birdies on the day. She is currently in a tie for 19th in the 40-player field.
 

 

Fellow classmate Carley Hrusovsky is just one shot behind McCann, carding a 36-hole score of 162 (83-79). For the day, Hrusovsky had one tough stretch where she was 8-over in a five-hole span, but played outstanding golf the other 32 holes, playing them just 10-over-par. She is currently in a tie for 21st.

The third and final senior participating for the Orange and Brown this weekend is Lindsey Jonkhoff, who fired a 164 (80-84), The 80 matches her season-best. In her round of 80 she had one hiccup, recording a triple-bogey on the par-4, 16th. She also had three birdies on the day.

Rounding out the Falcon competitors were two Falcons making their MAC Championship debuts, Lauren Glew and Hannah Lambert. Glew carded a 169 (89-80). The freshman seems to have it going now, playing her final nine holes of the day just 2-over-par. She is in a tie for 32nd. Lambert fired a 177 (85-92).

Round three will take place Saturday morning and will feature just 18 holes. Sunday will be the final day of competition.
