David Belfort, a two-dimensional studies major, will graduate in May. In the first edition of the Falcon soccer blog, he recalls his experience as a Falcon student-athlete.

As a member of the Bowling Green Men's Soccer team I have had many experiences during my tenure. These memories encompass from being a student to an athlete. As a student I will remember how proud I felt wearing that Falcon collared shirt or fleece to class on game day and everyone knowing that I was a member of the soccer team. I remember the nights that I had to stay in the art room pulling all-nighters to finish studio projects, but what I will remember most as a student is finishing college with a 3.1 GPA and having it feel like a 4.0 because I worked so hard to achieve such marks.

As a member of the soccer team I will always remember the 4 v 4 practices that were treated like life or death, the various possession games that were played with the intensity that I loved so much, the winters in the field house, and even the conditioning on the track. My senior year as a team captain, serving as a role model to the many under classmen, will not be forgotten. Nor will the huge wins over Ohio State and St. Mary's, or the come from behind victory on senior night to defeat IPFW that seamed like a dream come true. These memories standout, but none compare to the senior banquet, standing in front of everyone and being able to thank my parents who supported me through all of the ups and downs that came along with being a member of this program. I felt that that night was a tribute to everything that I had accomplished as a Bowling Green State University soccer player.

I was able to play against Wright State this spring to make numbers. It really hit home after the game the direction that this team is moving in. The end result of the game was 5-0, but more important was the style of soccer being played. The technical, creative, and organized soccer that Coach Thompson and Coach Economopoulos had put on the field was great. Explosive young players such as Ryan Perea, George Davis, and Justin Kim teaming up with disciplined, hard nosed defensemen like Andy Sink, Kyle McNayr, and John Mackenzie is sure to form a solid core for a successful soccer team. As a player that experienced a lot of disappointment during my early time in the Brown and Orange it is good to see that the program will soon go back to its glory days.
