Doug Schueler is entering his second year coaching his alma-mater.
Schueller, a BGSU graduate (1997-01), and a three-time captain for the Falcons, was an assistant coach with the Sioux Fall Stampede of the United State Hockey League (USHL).
In his first year with Sioux Falls, Schueller helped coach the Stampede to a 43-13-4 (.750) record, and helped them to an Anderson Cup Championship. Last year, Schueller worked primarily with the Stampede defense that finished first overall in the USHL and set a franchise record for fewest goals against in a season with 135. He also helped six defenseman secure Division I scholarships.
Prior to his time with the Stampede, Schueller played three years in the American Hockey League (AHL) and the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL).
While at Bowling Green, the Inver Grove Hts., Minn., native, played in 138 career games, recording 16 goals and 30 assists. He also racked up 251 penalty minutes and three game-winning goals. Schueller was an assistant captain for the Falcons as a sophomore during the 1998-99 season. He wore the "C" in both the 1999-00 and 2000-01 season, with the Falcons advancing to the CCHA semi-finals at Joe Louis Arena his senior year.
Schueller, who graduated from Bowling Green in 2001 with a degree in Sports Management, finished his Falcon career with a 3.59 grade-point average. He went on to complete his master's degree (business administration in sports management) from the University of Coventry Business School in 2005.
