Falcons Finish Eighth at MAC Championships

NASHPORT, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's golf team finished the 2008 Mid-American Conference Championships in eighth place following a 72-hole score of 1210, improving one spot of the final day of competition. The MAC Championships were held at Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio.

The Falcons saved their best for last, carding a 298 in the final 18 holes of action, the fifth-best round of the afternoon by the nine team championship.

Eastern Michigan won the event with a score of 1,171, followed by Kent State (1,172), Ball State (1,194), Toledo (1,203), Akron (1,204), Miami (1,206), Ohio (1,207), BGSU (1,210) and Northern Illinois (1,216).

Leading the way for the Orange and Brown was sophomore Matt Schneider, who carded a 72-hole score of 298 (78-74-71-75). He finished in a tie for 14th.

Just three shots off of Schneider's pace, Jace Walker finished with a 301 (73-74-77-77) to finish in a tie for 19th. Walker was also honored by the conference, receiving second-team All-MAC honors. The last Falcon to earn such an award was Heath Ziglar in 2006.

Sophomore John Powers was the Falcon mover of the day, climbing nine spots after carding a 72 on the final day of competition. Overall he finished in a tie for 24th with a score of 306 (73-82-79-72).

Completing the Falcon competitors were a pair of seniors in Russell Goodwin (315, 41st) and Trevor Spathelf (316, 42nd). Walker, Goodwin and Spathelf completed their Falcon career's on Sunday.
