Falcons Fall to Zips, 24-14

Oct. 29, 2005

Recap |  Final Stats |  Quotes

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University football team suffered a 24-14 loss to visiting Akron Saturday (Oct. 29) at Perry Stadium ... some notes and numbers from the game ...

BGSU NOTES

  • Akron's win over the Falcons created a four-way logjam at the top of the Mid-American Conference's East Division ... BGSU, UA, Ohio (beat Buffalo Saturday) and Miami (won a non-conference game at Temple) all have identical MAC records of 3-2.

  • Redshirt freshman Anthony Turner made his first career start at quarterback, replacing junior Omar Jacobs, who suffered a separated shoulder against Western Michigan last Saturday (Oct. 22) ... Turner threw his first career TD pass, an 11-yard effort to sophomore Sean O'Drobinak. It was O'Drobinak's second TD, both of the season and of his career.

  • Senior P.J. Pope had a five-yard TD run in the second quarter ... he becomes just the third player in BGSU history to score 40 career TD's (32 rushing, eight receiving) joining Josh Harris (47) and Dave Preston (41) on the all-time BGSU list.

  • Pope, who has missed much of the season due to injuries, had 18 rushes for 63 yards, both season highs, vs. the Zips ... Pope's rushing TD was his third of the season, all coming at Perry Stadium.

  • The Falcons had three players rush for between 60 and 70 yards in the game, as senior B.J. Lane had 70 yards on seven carries, for an even 10.0 yards per rush, and Turner ran 13 times for 60 yards ... Lane had a season-high 34-yard run, while Turner had a 22-yard carry, the longest of his brief BG career to date.

  • Nate Fry had a season-long 60-yard punt in Saturday's game ... his career long is 71 yards.

  • Turner completed 22 of 30 passes on Saturday, for a total of 173 yards ... Pope and senior Charles Sharon led the BG receivers with six catches apiece.

  • Akron did not turn the ball over for just the second time this season, and the first time since the game vs. Northern Illinois (four games ago).

  • Brett Biggs had 75 yards on 15 carries in the first half and 84 yards on 23 carries in the second half, marking the fifth and sixth times this year he has run for 50 or more yards in a half.

  • Biggs tied his season high with 153 yards on a career-high 38 carries, his second 100-yard game of the season (at Miami).

  • Biggs finished with two rushing TD's, the second time in the last three games he has run for two or more scores (Miami).

  • Yamari Dixon finished with a career-high nine tackles.

  • With 110 all-purpose yards, Domenik Hixon moved to sixth on Akron's career all-purpose yards list. He now has 3,156 yards.

  • With three receptions, Hixon moved into a tie for fifth on UA's single-season receptions leader list (52 in 2005).

  • Getsy's 205 passing yards moved him up to eighth on the UA single-season passing leaders list (1,985 yards).
