Q: How did BGSU student-athletes do in the classroom last spring?

Our student-athletes turned in one of the stronger semesters on record for the department. Collectively, the student-athletes achieved a 2.958 GPA, compared to the student body at 2.860. In addition, 50 student-athletes had a perfect 4.0 term GPA for this past semester. Overall, the career cumulative GPA for our student-athletes stands at a 2.996 - the highest recorded in the past seven years. We are very proud of this statistic as a reflection of the quality student-athletes our coaches recruit and the various support services in place to assist them with their academic pursuits.
Q: When will new locker rooms and batting cages be built for baseball and softball?

The idea of a baseball/softball/tennis locker room building, with batting cages, was introduced about two years ago. As conceived, the building would sit between the baseball and softball fields. That project, along with others, was put on hold last fall when we started our broader Facility Master Plan (FMP). Once completed later this summer, the FMP will provide a facilities road map for the next 15 to 20 years. I'm sure the locker room/cage facility will be a part of the plan. When we get to it, though, will be largely donor driven. In today's setting of college athletics, any project has to have substantial funding from private gifts.

Q: With all the new stuff out at Perry Stadium, is there any plan to erect a monument of Coach Perry?

While we won't be adding a monument of Coach Perry, there are plans to dress up "The Doyt" over the next couple of years. Many of our facilities need cosmetic touches to give them a "BG feel" and over time we'll address this as best we can with the resources we have. Given the number of fans that come to games, we're starting this summer with some new signage and improvements in Perry Stadium. Part of the new look is meant to improve the aesthetics, while some of the changes will help fans with directions and movement within The Doyt. We can also improve the sense of history for BGSU football. Great coaches, players, bowl game victories, conference championships and retired jerseys are all things we hope and expect to recognize in the future.
