Each week, Bowling Green State University Assistant Vice President/Director of Athletics Greg Christopher answers a few of the many questions that have been submitted to BGSUFalcons.com. Here is the latest installment ...

First off, a reminder to all Falcon fans ... we hope to see you at The Doyt on Aug. 25 at 6:30 p.m. Our Fall Sports Kickoff offers the opportunity to meet several of our student-athletes, coaches and staff. We'll be under the lights in Perry Stadium and you and your family will have the chance to take part in several activities on the new FieldTurf surface.

Q: If we are going to change falcons, why didn't you put the new Falcon head on the football helmets?
Andy in Toledo

Gregg Brandon, Joe Sharp, J.D. Campbell and I looked at several options and had them mocked up on computer drawings -- the new Falcon, the peek-a-boo logo and the interlocking BG. We then narrowed the pool and Joe ordered a few sample stickers for mock-ups on a real helmet. We then decided the interlocking BG looked the cleanest on the helmet and identified our team the best.

Q: Is Bowling Green meeting the current qualifications in order to remain Division I in all sports? Are any schools in the MAC in danger of losing D-I status -- and if so, what happens next?
Todd in Parma

BGSU is set right now with Division I-A and its parameters. While the football attendance requirement gets most of the attention, we also meet sport and scholarship provisions the NCAA has in place. As discussed a few weeks ago, the attendance issue will always be something we need to pay attention to. Other MAC schools meet the D-I requirements, although a good portion of the conference has football attendance hovering around 15K. If any school ever drops below any of the requirements, there is a probation period before the NCAA takes some set of actions. Regarding the football attendance requirement, the ultimate penalty schools face is being declared ineligible for any post-season games (conference championships or bowl games).
