Athletics Facility Master Plan

• Facility Master Plan

Fellow Falcons,

As you may recall, last winter BGSU Athletics embarked on a Facility Master Plan process. The background for this initiative began with the Sebo Center. While the new Sebo Center is one of the finest student-athlete buildings in the country, a long-term plan for capital priorities was not in place.

With this as a background, we undertook an extensive and collaborative look at athletic facilities and partnered with Sink Combs Dethlefs, the architectural firm that completed the Sebo Center and examined several Facility Master Plans from other Division I institutions.

Our priorities were as follows:

  • Assess the current state of BGSU's athletic facilities, including a compilation of all deficiencies.
  • Benchmark other peer facilities to gauge where BGSU has shortcomings when competing for recruits.
  • Overlay BGSU's campus master plan with potential athletic projects to ensure projects fit with institutional long-term plans.
  • Focus on options related to Anderson Arena and the Ice Arena since these facilities are BGSU's most pressing needs.

This link is a summary of the Facility Master Plan. This PowerPoint slideshow was presented to the Board of Trustees in September 2007, and provides a summary of the comprehensive plan.

Ultimately, this Facility Master Plan is a roadmap for future capital projects within BGSU Athletics. Identifying solutions for Anderson Arena and the Ice Arena are top priorities because of the impact these two facilities have on campus. Given the climate of today's higher education budget and other campus priorities, any facility improvements will be donor driven.

Thank you for your interest in and support of BGSU Athletics.

Roll Along,

Greg Christopher
