Mike Cihon is embarking upon his 12th year as an assistant director of athletic communications at Bowling Green State University. In that capacity, the BGSU alumnus is responsible for the public relations efforts for a number of Falcon sports, including women's soccer, women's basketball and tennis, while assisting with the football team and overseeing several other sports. Cihon returned to BGSU in the fall of 1996, after two years as the assistant director of communications at the Mid-American Conference office in Toledo. While there, he also served a two-month stint as interim director of communications. He has served with teams that have won a total of six MAC titles since 2004. He was the softball SID for 10 years, overseeing the publicity efforts for the team's 2004 MAC Tournament title. The women's soccer Falcons won the league tourney in the fall of '04, before winning both the MAC's regular-season and tournament titles in 2005. The women's basketball team has won the MAC regular-season and tourney crowns in each of the last three seasons, becoming the first-ever conference women's basketball team to advance to the 'Sweet 16' of the NCAA Championships in 2007. Cihon was responsible for the game notes, press releases, statistics and web site content and upkeep for this uber-successful team. A native of North Canton, Ohio, Cihon received his bachelor's degree in communications from BGSU in 1990, and earned a master's degree in sport administration from Kent State University in 1993. He spent two years as a graduate assistant in the KSU sports information office, and also was an intern at Michigan State, where he was the primary contact for the Spartan hockey and baseball teams. An active member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), Cihon serves on that organization's Site Selection Committee.
